This Week at The Comedy Clubhouse: May 27-June 2

Highlights

This week, we’re debuting a brand new show format which will generally be called Versus, and this week the theme is Single vs. Taken! It will basically be a showcase with multiple comedians performing tried-and-tested material, but there are a few twists. Firstly, we’ll be pitting single comedians (Jamie Lerner, Mila Kopaeva, and Mike Guy) against comedians in relationships (Darren Cullen, Kim Skinner, and Niko). You and the rest of the audience will get to decide which team was funnier, and that team will get paid! Another twist is that when you get your ticket, you pick your team, and you’ll sit on opposite sides of the room like some weird archaic wedding. We plan to use this format for more little competition showcases (like US vs. UK, boys vs. girls, locals vs. foreigners…the possibilities are endless!) so this first one will be a PWYW show to test it out. Come along to support this new show!

We also have a very special edition of Gong Wild, since it will be hosted by our Spotlight headliner, President Obonjo! This legendary UK act is the self-proclaimed dictator of the “Lafta Republic” so we’ll see how he manages the mighty power of the gong. Will he be benevolent? Or will he make some comedians cry? Honestly, the power is more in the hands of the crowd, who get to decide which comedians finish their sets, and which get gonged off. We may have some other wacky surprises in store for this one, so don’t miss out!

And, of course, I recommend checking out Friday Night Live this weekend. It’s always a killer lineup, but this week we’re lucky to have Kyla Cobbler hosting and Bianca Cristovao headlining! Bianca is an LA-based comedian originally from Czechia who has appeared on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and recently recorded a set with Don’t Tell Comedy that has racked up 169k views on Youtube. The lineup also features other top-notch visiting acts like Filippo Spreafico, Greg Hutt, Drew Beekler, and Esteve Tomas, plus local favorite Mila Kopaeva.

Special Shows This Week

🆚 See the launch of a brand new show format: Versus! These shows will have comedians representing 2 teams perform their best material. The audience will decide who you liked the best, and that team will go home with the money! To add to the competitive atmosphere, you will be seated according to your team alignment. This edition will be SINGLE vs. TAKEN! Who will be funnier? Comedians in steady relationships, or those out still playing the field? Come find out! Since we’re trying this format for the first time, we’re making it a pay-what-you-want show. Hosted by John Allis, with sets from singletons Mike Guy, Mila Kopaeva, and Jamie Lerner, and coupled up Niko, Kim Skinner, and Darren Cullen.

🎹 She’s silly. She’s sad. She’s horny. And she can play the piano. Award-winning comedian Jamie Lerner jokes about ADHD, masturbation, and other girly shit in her debut solo show, F*ck Tomorrow. A New Yorker living in Barcelona, Jamie’s mix of stand-up and musical comedy has elicited comparisons to Bo Burnham, Cat Cohen, and Garfunkel and Oates, among others. Jamie has been performing in Barcelona and New York City for over 5 years with expertise in musical comedy on the ukulele, piano, and maybe even the flute? This show is the culmination of her comedic career up to this point and the VERY FIRST VERSION of her work-in-progress that she’s bringing to Edinburgh this summer, so don’t miss out!

👸 It’s that special time of the month again, where we decide who is the Bitch of the Month! Come to Shut Up, Bitch!, a showcase of funny women (plus one token mansplainer) hosted by the incomparable Mila Kopaeva. Featuring Esther, Romina Cocca, Jamie Lerner, and Bianca Cristovao, with Ben Hays Miller as the mansplainer.

🙅🏼 Have you ever wanted the power to kick a comedian off stage? Then you’ll definitely enjoy Gong Wild, our take on the classic gong show (now, with a real gong!) Comedians of all levels will try their best to withstand a few minutes on stage, but if the audience doesn’t like what they hear, they can vote to gong them off stage. Comedians who beat the gong will be rewarded with a crisp 10 euro bill, while those who get gonged will probably go home and cry, or something. This week, President Obonjo will be our special guest host, meaning these comedians better stay in line!

☕️ The early birds get the worm… and the free coffee and pancakes! Join the live audience of our daytime talk show, Coffee Con Comedy, hosted by Vem & Vos. Enjoy a relaxed morning with stand up comedy, interviews, games, and more at the Clubhouse Cafe!

🤬 In a world where reality is absurd, imagination seems the only antidote. Rage Baby is a show about the absurdity of everyday life, yearning for connection and struggles of fitting in. Despite the hurdles, Mila remains hopeful, and maybe even a bit defiant towards societal norms. If you’ve ever felt like a single banana separated from the bunch, or a starfish kept in an aquarium, this is a show for you! Mila Kopaeva is a comedian based in Barcelona who performs all around Europe. She is a co-runner of several successful shows such as Midweek Crisis, Shut Up, B*tch!, and Sadness Cabaret. Mila is twice a winner of the Clubbie award for Biggest Workhorse. Mila hypnotizes the audience with clownish antics and expressive delivery. She’s an outsider, a weirdo, a goofy child zipped inside the body of a problem-prone woman and it’s time to come out and rage.

🍕 Don’t miss out monthly open mic in Italian, featuring acts based in Barcelona and visiting comedians from around the world!

🪆And we have our Russian-language open mic this weekend, where brand new local acts mix with traveling pro comics.
