Adapting & Punching Up Material with Adam Hopkins

November 23 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
€10.00
Visiting from the UK after touring globally, Adam Hopkins will lead a workshop in how to adapt location and culture-specific jokes to a wider audience. After running through some of his own examples, participants will have the opportunity to workshop their Barcelona-specific (or any sort of culturally specific) bits to adapt them as a group. This will be followed by an Angel Comedy Club-style “joke gym,” during which comics will work on punching up existing bits, adding tags, set structure, and ordering jokes.

This session is appropriate for all levels, from new comics to veteran pros.

Adam Hopkins started doing comedy while living in Shanghai, China, and has headlined clubs all across Asia in cities like Beijing, Tokyo, Taipei, Bangkok, Hong Kong and even Wuhan. While based in Shanghai he opened for various big name comics on their China tours, including Kyle Kinane (Netflix), Mike Vecchione (Tonight Show), Dean Edwards (SNL), and Kate Willett (Netflix).

Now based in London, he has performed at clubs up and down the UK, such as Hot Water, Backyard, Angel, Frog and Bucket, Up the Creek, 21Soho, and Top Secret. Adam has written for shows on BBC Radio 4 Extra and BBC Radio Scotland and been published by VICE, Time Out, ESPN and more.

His credits include: British Comedy Guide performance award, BBC New Comedy Award nomination, Circuit Breakers showcases at Leicester Comedy Festival, Reading Indie Comedy Festival’s New Comedian of the Year winner, finalist at the inaugural UK Chinese Comedy competition (performing in Mandarin), and more.
