Don’t Be Funny: The Fundamentals of Clowning with Josh Glanc

October 13 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
€60.00 – €80.00

Spend the day immersed in the wonderful world of clown with award-winning Australian clown Josh Glanc.

This is an introduction to the fundamentals of clowning open to participants with some performing experience. Clown is about showing your idiocy and embracing it. To be funny on stage you need to know how to just be there, being an idiot, only then will audiences be able to see your idiocy and you will be able to play. Participants will learn and play with these basic concepts that inform clown work: being open and present on stage, being vulnerable and real, listening to the audience and being sensitive and letting your true idiot be seen.

We learn clown as performers because it teaches us the fundamentals of being on stage, of being with an audience, and being open. When we get this right – we’re funny. Gaining a deeper understanding of these concepts and having experience practicing these skills during the workshop can be particularly helpful for stand-ups and improvisors.

Josh Glanc is a multi-award winning clown and performer. He trained at École Philippe Gaulier, the John Bolton Theatre School in Melbourne and with Giovanni Fusetti and Spymonkey. His Edinburgh Fringe show this year was nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award. He’s been called an “extraordinary talent” by The Scotsman and “one of the best out there” by Fest.
